  • The first time you use the machine, the water circuit is empty, and the appliance could be very noisy. The noise becomes less as the circuit fills.

  • When making the first 5-6 cappuccinos, it is normal to hear the noise of boiling water. After this, the noise becomes less.

  • To improve the performance of your appliance, we recommend installing a water softener filter. If your model is not provided with a filter, you can purchase one on delonghi.com.

Lights/Alarms

Descaling alarm stays on after the cleaning cycle has finished

If a customer tries to descale their unit and at the end of the process the alarm is still active it is likely they did not do all the steps or the cycle was interrupted.

The descaling process is different on all machines. Refer to the manual for the model

NOTE: Descaling the unit and keeping it clean is very important to the unit's operation and longevity.

If the unit is not kept clean it is likely it will not continue to produce a great cup of coffee.

Unit is showing error message " FILL BEANS CONTAINER "- but it has beans

  • Beans at times can be slightly oily and group together. Make sure you push the beans down towards the hopper and add more beans.

  • The pre-ground coffee funnel is clogged.

Unit is showing “LESS COFFEE” alarm

  • If you are using PRE GROUND COFFEE and get this alarm it may be because you added too much coffee. You are only to use one spoon per cup.

  • If you get this alarm using BEANS, follow the encoder reset procedure. If it isn't clear, send it to a Service Center.

“GROUND TOO FINE” error message

  • Check the grinder setting

  • Always be sure grinder is running when you change the setting

  • Make it more course by choosing a higher number. 1 is the finest setting, 7 is coursest.

  • Do a reset on the unit - see reset encoder instructions.

  • Try priming the unit

  • Check the brew unit is cleaned and the piston moves freely.

Steaming issues

Not Frothing

  • Check that the settings chosen are correct for the drink you are making.

  • Best to use 2% fat milk. Lower fat milks may not produce too much foam.

  • Make sure your carafe and carafe lid are clean.

  • Refer to manual on how to disassemble the lid and how to clean it.

Making Coffee Issues

Coffee doesn’t flow

Perform the rinse function.

If water is coming out:

If no water is coming out:

  • Make sure the water tank is fully inserted and has water.

  • Make sure the coffee spout is clean.

  • Make sure the brewing unit is clean.
