Coffee doesn't flow

Which side of the machine does not work, the drip coffee unit or the espresso coffee unit?

  1. The drip coffee unit:

  • Is the carafe inserted?

  • Is the drip side on?

  • Is the warming plate cold? If the answer is yes, it means the unit needs to be repaired by the Support Service.

  1. The espresso coffee unit:

  1. Remove the portafilter from the appliance and try to brew espresso without the portafilter.

  • If water is not coming out:

    •  Check if there is water in the water tank or if the water tank is fully inserted.

    • If the tank has been inserted incorrectly and the valves on the bottom are not open: Press the tank down lightly to open the valves on the bottom.

    • Try to remove the water tank and install it again.

    • Scale in the water circuit: Descale.

    • If there is water coming out:

      • The coffee is too fine or not fine enough.

      • The filter is clogged: You need to press the “tea cup button” to descale the machine.

Leaking water/oil/gas/steam

Where is it leaking from?

  1. Water

  • Portafilter:

    • The portafilter is inserted incorrectly: Attach the portafilter correctly and rotate firmly as far as it will go

    • The espresso boiler gasket has lost elasticity or is dirty: the espresso boiler gasket needs to be replaced.

    • The filter is clogged, or the perforated filter is missing or dirty: clean the filter.

  • Water tank: The water tank is not inserted correctly.

  • Bottom :

    • The drip-tray is full, therefore some water might spill.

    • The drip tray is empty but the water tank might be broken.

  • Drip tray:  the unit discharged the excess water, this is something normal.

  1. Steam:

Some steam should come out. Review if the customer is operating the unit correctly.

Frothing

  • Make sure the steam dial is fully open.

  • Make sure the milk nozzle holes are clean.

  • Always clean the frother after each session

  • Check the frother has all o'rings intact on the frother

  • Best to use cold milk with a 2% or less fat content

  • Stainless steel pitchers are best but can froth in any type container

  • Be sure not to fully immerse the nozzle of the frother into the milk. The small hole at the top of the nozzle must stay above the milk line. As the milk airates, it will grow in volume so you must lower the container keeping that hole free.

Damaged/broken parts

Parts might need to be replaced/ repaired.

Doesn't heat

  • The espresso coffee OK light was not on when the coffee switch was pressed: Wait until the OK light comes on

  • No preheating was done: Preheat

  • The cups were not preheated: Heat the cups by rinsing them in hot water or standing them on the cup warmer tray for at least 20 minutes

  • Scale in the water circuit: Perform the descaling procedure

Steaming issues

This may cause Steaming issues. Look at Steaming issues section.

Noisy/ Vibration

Noise

  1. Where is the noise coming from?

  2. Is this a brand-new machine you just purchased? If yes: It might be a normal noise. Keep in mind the grinder makes a noise when it is grinding.

  3. Did you not hear this noise before?
