Cooling/Heating/Air Treatment FAQ's

Portable Air Conditioner

  1. Why do I see two Pinguino Apps in the App Store?

The reason you will see two Apps is that the App labeled "Pinguino WiFi" is only to be used if you own model PACAN140EKF. All other Pinguino WiFi models require the use of the App labeled "Pinguino".

  1. Does my Pinguino Wifi work with Alexa or Google Home?

Yes, your Pinguino portable air conditioner is compatible with Alexa and Google Home

  1. My portable air conditioner keeps shutting off (compressor stops).

  • Always check to make sure the unit's display is not showing the empty tank symbol. If shown drain the unit;

  • Check the setting and make sure the room temperature is warmer than what the unit is set at;

  • check that the exhaust hose is connected to the unit properly and make sure there are no kinks or bends in the hose;

  • check that the filter is clean and free of dust and debris.

  1. My Portable Air Conditioner is not blowing cold air. What can I do?

If your Portable Air Conditioner is not blowing cold air please check the following:

  • check that the unit temperature setting is lower than the room temperature;

  • check that the fan is blowing warm air from the back of the unit;

  • check that you hear the compressor kick on after start-up (could be a 3 minutes delay);

  • check that the filter is clean and the unit has no error messages.

Air Purifiers

  1. How often do I need to replace the filter(s)?

           The De’Longhi Air Purifier’s combination HEPA/Carbon filter is the only filter that needs to be replaced.  Its normal life averages 6 months but it depends on your living space and the number of pollutants in the indoor air.  The check filter light on the unit will let you know when it’s time to change the filter.

  1. I require more information on the DeLonghi Air Purifier

The DeLonghi Air Purifier uses five (AC150) or six (AC230) distinct technologies to break down/destroy pollutants such as the thousands of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), odor-causing compounds, bacteria, viruses, and particulates (dust/dander) that are found in the indoor environment. These technologies include:

• The air is taken in through the front panel;

• The contaminated air passes through a washable pre-filter which removes large impurities such as coarse dust, hair, etc.

• The air is then passed through a long-lasting HEPA filter with a large filtering surface, easily recognizable by the special pleated paper. This HEPA (High-Efficiency Particulate Air) filter removes impurities down to a size of 0.3 microns, filtering all types of particles including tobacco, house dust, and pollen.

• Next, the air passes through a black active carbon filter which removes a variety of pollutants and unpleasant odors such as smoke, fine dust particles, and formaldehyde.

• The AC230 model has an active nano-silver filter to trap microbes such as germs, bacteria, and viruses.

• Air is then passed through an internal filter with photocatalytic (PCO) titanium dioxide with a UVC lamp. This helps capture germs, bacteria, and viruses as well as remove harmful VOC (volatile organic compounds) from room air.

• The purified air is returned to the room through the top grille. The upward flow of air improves air circulation in the environment, without generating irritating currents.

• When active, the independently controlled ionizer releases a cloud of beneficial negative ions into the room together with the outflow of filtered air, allowing the removal of dust particles, pollen, and cigarette smoke. On contact with the negative ions, the particles of dust suspended in the air are negatively charged and can combine with the positively charged particles to form larger particles which will then be filtered by the pu¬rifier. The negative particles are attracted by positively charged surfaces, such as the floor or wall. The ionizer can also help reduce the static electricity created by the presence of rugs, carpets, televisions, and computer screens.

  1. Should I run my air purifier continuously?

                 A: To be truly effective, ALL air purifiers should be run continuously. Scientific research confirms that indoor air pollution rapidly returns to pretreatment levels when an air purifier is turned off.

  1. Is there any maintenance necessary on the DeLonghi  Air Purifier?

      A: Yes. The unit should be cleaned on a regular basis (typically once a month).

Please note: Before performing cleaning and maintenance, always unplug the appliance from the main socket.

  • Prefilter

    • Check the pre-filter regularly. If large quantities of dust and other impurities have accumulated, remove and hand wash in hot soapy water. Dry thoroughly before replacing the appliance.   Frequent cleaning of the pre-filter helps extend the life of the HEPA filter/active carbon filter.

  • Combination HEPA filter?Active carbon filter

    • The life of a HEPA filter/active carbon filter depends on the operating conditions of the appliance.

    •  In general, considering about 4 hours of operation a day at medium speed with normal quantities of dust/smoke in the air, it should last about 6 months. However, when the HEPA filter changes lights, it must be replaced.

    • To replace the HEPA filter/active carbon filter, first remove the prefilter, then remove the HEPA filter/active carbon filter (C) and replace it with a new one.  Do not wash the HEPA filter/active carbon filter. When exhausted, it cannot be regenerated.

    • It is a permanent filter that requires no maintenance. IT MUST NEVER BE REMOVED as it acts as protection for the UVC lamp.

Dehumidifiers

  1. How does a Dehumidifier work

Explain to the consumer that air containing moisture is drawn into the unit by using a fan. The fan then pushes the air through a refrigerated evaporator which will then extract the moisture from the air. The dried air is then expelled back into the room. The moisture that has been collected is then stored in the tank inside the unit.

  • When using the dehumidifier, you must choose how to discharge the water:

    •  One way is the tank will fill up thus causing the float to turn off the unit and then you must manually empty the tank.

    • Another way is activating the pump feature causing the water to be pumped out through a tube never requiring the tank to be emptied.

    • The last way is utilizing the continuous drainage feature in which water is expelled through a tube downward using gravity so never required to empty the tank.

  • HUMIDISTAT EXPLANATION:

Having a programmable humidistat allows you to set the degree of relative humidity.  The humidistat will cycle the unit on and off maintaining the chosen setting. This also helps with the cost of unit consumption.

How to set and choose the correct Humidity level

  • In a room that’s occupied (ex: living space), the setting is ideal if you choose between 40-55 % humidity.

  • In a room that’s not occupied but requires a dry environment ( ex: laundry room) the setting is ideal if you choose between 30-40 % humidity.

  • In a room that is not occupied but requires the humidity to be controlled ( ex: basement) the setting can be set higher so choose a level between 60-70%.

  • How to change the fan speed

The fan speed can only be changed manually once the compressor has been engaged and is running. The unit will automatically choose a speed setting if it is not done manually.

Heaters

  1. Why does my fan heater go into standby mode?

The heater may go into standby mode or appear as it has turned off for a few reasons:

  •  If the “ECO plus” function is active, the appliance may switch automatically to a lower heating power than the one displayed for more efficient energy consumption. It is normal for this to occur a few times per hour while the unit is on.

  • If the desired set temperature has been reached and the thermostat maintains the heat by cycling the unit on and off.

  • The timer is active and the unit has reached the set time.

  • The unit to prevent overheating shut off, if this is the reason make sure it is not covered and free of objects for a 3 ft (1 meter) radius; unplug and wait 10 minutes before plugin back.

  1. Do any of your heaters contain PTFE?

None of the De'Longhi heater parts contain PTFE-type materials.

  1. What is a convector heater and how does it work?

Convection heaters operate on the principle that the room air is drawn to the unit from underneath where a heating element is located.

The air passes over the heating element and rises out through the top of the unit back into the room as warm air.

They are light and easy to carry, and some models can be wall mounted.

Some models come with fan-assisted features to speed up heat distribution.
